Tom Southworth, Lean Consultant

Tom Southworth joined CONNSTEP in 2007, and brings more than 27 years of manufacturing experience to his role as Lean Consultant. In this position, he provides consulting services to a variety of manufacturing companies with a concentration in Lean Manufacturing. He has provided both classroom and hands-on training and facilitated the design, development and implementation of Lean Methodologies on an enterprise wide basis.

Mr. Southworth has spent 19 years in various management positions, with a particular focus in quality and plant management in commercial and label printing. Prior to joining CONNSTEP, Tom served as the Director of Lean Manufacturing for Moore Wallace, an RR Donnelley Company, during which time the company conducted over 300 kaizen and training events involving more than 1,700 associates.

Earlier in his career, Tom was recruited to manage operations in Moore's printing facility in Manchester, NH, where he served as Plant Manager and led the plant to win the Moore Corporation's Plant of the Year award in 2003. For nearly ten years before joining the Moore Corporation, he worked in multiple Quality and management roles at CCL Label, Inc.

Among his professional credentials, Tom is SME Lean Bronze Certified, an ASQ Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence, and a certified Training Within Industries (TWI) Job Instruction and Job Relations trainer. He also volunteers in Disaster Services for the American Red Cross and is a certified fire fighter through the National Fire Protection Association.

Tom is the recipient of the 2010 NIST/MEP Practitioner of the Year.  The MEP Awards recognize those individuals and groups that have gone above and beyond to support and strengthen the MEP national system and U.S. based manufacturing.
